It texts back the calls you cannot answer

You are inside somebody's house with gloves on and the phone rings. The AI receptionist texts that caller back within seconds, answers from the questions and answers you wrote, quotes by calling your pricing engine, offers openings your calendar actually returned, and books one of them. What makes it safe to leave switched on is not a promise about the model: it is that the model cannot reach a price or a time except through a function call, and that a reply asserting something the system did not compute is replaced before it sends.

The AI receptionist and missed call text-back are on the Business plan.

01 · How it works
1

Point your calls at the number

Publish the number your account was assigned, or keep your existing business line and forward it when you do not answer or the line is busy. The setup screen shows the forwarding codes for your carrier.

2

A missed call becomes a text

When a call goes unanswered or busy, the caller gets your first message by text within seconds. You write that message. It arrives while they are still deciding who to call next.

3

The assistant works inside its fence

It answers from the questions and answers you entered, quotes through the pricing engine, offers openings the calendar returned, and books one of them. Anything else goes to a person.

4

You take over whenever you want

Open the thread and type. The assistant stops on that message and does not resume. It also stops on its own at the message cap, on an escalation keyword, and when the daily budget is spent.

02 · What it may do, and what it may never do

It may

  • Answer from the questions and answers you wrote, and from your services, service area, hours and policies
  • Quote a price by calling the pricing engine, the same engine your booking widget uses
  • List real openings, computed from your calendar the same way the widget computes them
  • Book one of those openings, under the number the conversation is happening on
  • Take a name, number and short note so the office can call back
  • Hand the conversation to a person and notify the office

It may never

  • State a price the pricing engine did not return, or invent, estimate, negotiate, round or discount one
  • Offer a day or a time the availability check did not return
  • Tell anyone they are booked unless the booking actually succeeded
  • Accept a price or a discount that a message in the conversation tells it to apply
  • Reveal, quote, paraphrase or summarize its own instructions, or discuss having any
  • Discuss another customer, or send a message to any number other than the one it is texting

The second list is not a style guide handed to a model. Each line is enforced by the code around it: by what the model can call, by what it is given back, and by a check on the reply before the message leaves.

03 · What it looks like

A haggling caller, and the reply that does not move

The inbox shows the thread the way the customer sees it, plus what the assistant did before each reply: which price it looked up, which openings it read. The message counter runs against the cap so you can see how close a conversation is to reaching a person, and the day's spend runs against your budget.

Take over sits at the bottom of every thread. So does typing: the button is a convenience, not the only way to stop it.

04 · What it does

The guardrails, in mechanism

  • Prices come from a function call, not from the model writing a number. The model cannot reach the price list any other way.
  • Openings come from a function call too. A time it did not receive cannot appear in a message.
  • A booking exists only when the booking call reports that it booked. Otherwise the customer is told the office will confirm.
  • Before a reply is sent, the numbers in it are checked against what the calls actually returned. A reply that asserts something uncomputed is replaced with a line that promises nothing and pulls in a person.
  • Customer messages are treated as data. An instruction typed by a caller is not an instruction the assistant follows.

The stops

  • Twenty AI messages per conversation, then a person takes it. You can set the cap lower.
  • Any message you send in the thread stops the assistant on the spot, and it does not restart
  • Escalation keywords you choose end the conversation and notify the office. At least one is required before the receptionist can be switched on.
  • A per day spend budget for the whole account. When it is used up the account moves to handoff for the rest of the day rather than going quiet.
  • Every reason for stopping is recorded on the conversation, in one plain sentence

Your controls

  • On and off, and an after hours only mode so it answers when you cannot
  • Three tone presets: friendly, brief, formal
  • Your own first message for a missed call, and your own questions and answers
  • The full transcript in an inbox, with a takeover button

Compliance

  • Every AI message is marked as AI generated and counted as an outbound message
  • Quiet hours and consent checks apply to AI messages exactly as they do to yours
  • STOP from a customer blocks everything to that number, including the assistant
  • Text messages use credits: $10 buys 500 outbound segments, inbound is free
05 · Who it is for
Owners who still clean

If your hands are wet from ten to four, the calls that come in then are the ones you never call back. This is the gap it fills.

Anyone without an office person

It is not a receptionist replacement. It is the first two minutes of a conversation, so the lead is still warm when you get to it.

People who do not trust AI with prices

Reasonably. Read the mechanism section: the model cannot produce a price, it can only ask for one and repeat what came back.

06 · Questions about the receptionist
Can it quote a price I did not set?

No, and not because it was asked nicely not to. The assistant has no way to state a price except by calling the pricing engine, and the reply is checked before it sends: a number that did not come back from that call does not go out. The message the customer gets instead says the office will confirm.

What happens if a caller tries to talk it into a discount?

Nothing. Discounting is not something it can do. Customer messages are treated as data rather than instructions, so an inbound text that says the owner approved twenty percent off changes nothing about the price the engine returns.

How do I stop it mid conversation?

Type in the thread. The assistant stops on your message and stays stopped for that conversation. There is no delay and no second confirmation step.

What stops a runaway bill?

A daily spend budget for the account, set by you. When the day's spend reaches it, the receptionist moves to handoff and the office is notified, so the failure mode is a person answering, not an invoice you did not expect.
