Acceptable use policy

Last updated August 12, 2026. This is our own document, written by the operator of BroomDesk. It is not legal advice from a law firm, and it is not a substitute for advice about your own business.

The short version

  • Rule one, and the one that matters most: only text people who actually agreed to hear from you, and be honest when the product asks you to confirm that.
  • Honour STOP. Never find a way around it. Never move a blocked number to a different record to reach them again.
  • No content carriers ban, no misleading links, no messaging for businesses that are not yours.
  • Do not go looking at other customers' data, do not hammer the platform, do not resell it.
  • Break these and we can suspend messaging or the account. We tell you why, and we tell you what to fix.

The summary is here to be read. The full text below is what applies.

This policy is part of the terms of service. It applies to you, to everyone you invite into your account, and to anything sent through your account.

BroomDesk gives you the tools. You remain the sender of record for your own messages and the operator of your own business, which is why most of what follows is about telling the truth.

1. Messaging consent, truthfully

This section comes first because it is where a cleaning business can do the most damage to itself, to the people it texts, and to the toll-free numbers every other business on the platform shares a reputation with.

  • Only message people who consented. Service texts rest on the disclosure shown at booking. Marketing texts need express written opt-in you could produce if challenged. A phone number you hold is not consent. A past customer is not consent for marketing. A purchased list is never consent.
  • Do not lie on the import attestation. When you import contacts, the product asks you to confirm you have consent for them, and it records who confirmed it and when, against every contact in that file. Ticking that box for a list you bought or scraped is the single worst thing you can do here. It is grounds for immediate suspension, and it is the record a plaintiff's lawyer would read out.
  • Never pre-tick a consent box or word a form so that agreeing to marketing looks required to book. Marketing consent is never a condition of service.
  • Honour opt-outs, completely. STOP blocks every text to that number, service messages included. Do not create a second client record, re-import the number, or move it to another business you run in order to reach it again. Do not ask a person who opted out to opt back in by text.
  • Do not defeat quiet hours or throttles. The platform holds messages until the recipient's local window opens. Splitting a campaign, staggering accounts or editing time zones to get around that is a breach.
  • Stay who you say you are. Messages carry your business name and identify the platform. Do not send on behalf of another business, do not impersonate anyone, and do not use your number for a different company's campaign.
  • Keep the exposure in mind. Under the US Telephone Consumer Protection Act, statutory damages run from $500 to $1,500 per violating message, and claims are brought over whole campaigns. Section 9 of the terms of service puts that liability on you, with an indemnity in our favour.

2. Content that is never allowed

Carriers block message categories regardless of consent, and a violation costs the whole platform its numbers, not just yours.

  • No SHAFT content: sex, hate, alcohol, firearms or tobacco. That includes promotions where an alcohol brand appears.
  • No loan offers, debt collection, debt forgiveness, credit repair, get rich schemes, gambling, or anything cannabis related.
  • No misleading links, no public URL shorteners, no phishing, no malware.
  • No unlawful, harassing, defamatory, hateful or threatening content, and nothing that would be abusive to the person receiving it.
  • No sensitive personal data in messages: no card numbers, no government identifiers, no health details.
  • Nothing here is a substitute for reading your own carrier and regulatory obligations. If a campaign feels borderline, it is.

3. Platform integrity

  • No attempt to reach another customer's data, by any route, including probing identifiers, tampering with tokens or exploiting a fault. If you find a way in, tell us at support@broomdesk.com and we will thank you properly.
  • No scraping, automated bulk extraction, load testing or penetration testing without our written agreement first.
  • No reverse engineering, no reselling, no white-labelling and no running a competing service on top of ours without an agreement.
  • Use the API and widgets within their published rate limits. Do not spread traffic across accounts to get around them.
  • One account is for one business. Do not share a login between people; invite them instead, since every plan includes unlimited team members.
  • No uploading of malware, and no using file storage as a general file dump unrelated to your cleaning work.

4. Running your business lawfully

  • Classify and pay your workers according to the law that applies to you. The payroll engine calculates what you tell it to calculate. It is not advice, and it does not make a contractor into an employee or the other way around.
  • Tell your workers about location capture. Clock-in location is recorded where you enable it, and the people it records are entitled to know.
  • Set and remit your own taxes on client invoices. BroomDesk applies the rates you configure and does not decide them.
  • Handle client property and entry details responsibly. Door codes and keys are held in the account because the job needs them, not for anyone to browse.
  • Have a privacy notice of your own for your clients, and answer their data requests. You are the controller of that data, as set out in the data processing addendum.
  • Do not use AI features to mislead. An AI receptionist reply is sent in your name. Review what your automations say.

5. How this is enforced

We would rather fix a problem than close an account. What happens depends on the risk to the people receiving your messages and to the platform:

  • A warning for most first issues, naming the specific thing to change.
  • Messaging suspension where texts are the problem. The rest of the account keeps working.
  • Account suspension or termination for a serious or repeated breach, for a false consent attestation, or where carriers or a regulator force our hand.

We notify you at the account email unless the law or an active investigation prevents it, and we say what would resolve it. If we suspend you and you disagree, reply to that email and a person will look again. Where a breach costs us money, in carrier penalties or claims, the indemnity in the terms of service applies.

To report abuse by another customer, or a message you believe was sent without consent, write to support@broomdesk.com with the number, the date and the message text if you have it.
